STEP 3
FIRST SESSION PREPARATION
First Session Instructions
HBOT Florida is excited to begin this journey with you. Your health, comfort, and safety are always our top priorities. After your in-office consultation, you’re welcome to begin your personalized Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy program—often the very same day.

Patient Guide: Preparing for Your First HBOT Session
Practice Equalizing Your Ears: (Before entering the chamber)
-
Close your mouth, pinch your nose, and gently blow air into your pinched nose.
-
Or try holding your nose and swallowing
-
Or you may choose to chew gum or drink water
-
If you are having difficulty clearing your ears, let the hyperbaric technician know before your session.
Dress Appropriately:
-
Wear comfortable layers, as temperatures in our chambers can vary.
-
Preferably your clothing should be 100% cotton, or at least a 50:50 cotton blend.
BYOB: (Bring Your Own Blanket and/or Pillow)
-
You are welcome to bring your own 100% cotton blanket and pillow
-
We will provide a blanket and pillow if needed
Eat A Light Meal:
-
Eat a light meal before your session to prevent any discomfort.
-
Avoid eating heavy, fatty, or spicy foods that may cause indigestion.
Use the Restroom:
-
The chamber cannot be opened once the session begins. This will also help prevent any discomfort.
-
Do not consume an excessive amount of fluids for 3 hours before your session.
Not Permitted:
-
Remove shoes, jewelry, and empty your pockets and place your belongings in a lockable locker.
-
Please avoid wearing perfumes, colognes, or strong scented lotions.
-
Avoid eating spicy foods 2 hours before your session.
-
Avoid wearing lip stick, make up, lotions, Vaseline products, oil based products.
-
Avoid smoking 2 hours before and directly after your session.
-
Avoid alcohol before and after treatment.
Report any Cold or Flu, or Seasonal Allergy Symptoms:
-
While you may feel fine, sinus congestion may prevent you from properly clearing your ears during the session. Sometimes it is best to sit out a day or two until the symptoms have cleared.
Practice Your Hand Signals:
-
During your session, the very best way to communicate with your technician is through the use of hand signals.
-
Please review and practice your hand signals before your session.
